Getting to know Mrs. Sherouse:

I have been working at NHS since 2-14-77, yes Valentine's Day is my anniversary at the school.  Two of my years were spent teaching third grade.  Previously I was employed in Oxford, MA as the Coordinator of  the Elementary Educational Media Centers.  I also taught second grade for a year and half in Oxford prior to the birth of my first child.

Among the many hats I have worn while working at NHS, I am first a mother to two daughters.  I wrote the first grant that brought computers into our school and taught both computer programming for  students and “Getting to Know Computers” for adult community members in the evenings. I coordinated the first Young Author's program in our school and helped to run the SAU wide Young Author's Program for many years.  I have brought a wide variety of authors/illustrators to NHS including Lisa Anderson, Jim Arnosky, John Bellairs, Andrew Clements, Ralph Fletcher, Gail Gibbons, David Greenberg, Kevin Hawkes, Will Hobbs, Eric Ingraham, Dr. Steven Layne,  Lois Lowry, Gary Paulsen, Judy Schachner, Cynthia Lord, Michael Dooling and Steve Swineburn, to name a few.

Since graduating from the University of Rhode Island with my second master's degree in 1996, I have been adjunct faculty for the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies at URI.  I have taught Children's Literature at UMass Boston, the URI Kingston Campus and also at UNH in Durham for URI.  In the spring of 2005 and the fall of 2008, I taught Reading Interests of Young Adults for URI in Durham.

During four summers from 1985-1988, I worked in the Math Dept. of UNH.  My first two summers were spent creating math manipulative workshops for teachers.  These were taught in a wide variety of locations across the state.  I also coordinated all of the workshop presentations after the second year.  Then I was invited to return as an assistant to Carol Findell the third year and as an assistant to Ferd Prevost, the fourth summer.

I served on the board of the Children's Literature Festival at Keene State College from 2000-2003.  I also co-chaired the New Hampshire Libraries Conference in May, 2004 at the Mt. Washington Hotel.  Presently I continue my tenure on the conference committee lining up programs for the next conference, a position I have occupied since 1999. I was president of the New Hampshire Educational Media Association for the 2004-2005 term. I was awarded the Eddies in 2007 and most recently, was named Volunteer of the Year for Seacoast Interfaith Hospitality Network for 2009.

What do I do for pleasure?  Work!  Seriously, I am a workaholic and the only change in that is due to the birth of grandchildren.  I have twin granddaughters who live in NH and I love spending time reading to them and playing with them.  Other hobbies that bring me pleasure in addition to reading are paper crafts, working on photo albums and sewing.  I have tried and enjoy all forms of needlework, when time permits.  I find that listening to audio books allows me to enjoy two hobbies at once.
