LAS updates and a sincere thank you! - 12/22/20

Dear Parents,

I have a couple of updates for you before we break for vacation tomorrow afternoon.

Food Drive

Our Food Drive was successful and the items were picked up this morning by volunteers at a local food pantry. Many thanks to all of you that dropped food off and also a big shout out to our Mission Impact students for helping to organize this! We would like to continue food drives when we return. Shelter volunteers have told us that the need is great and will most likely continue to be over the next few months. Thank you for your generosity!

Ice Rink

Our new LAS Ice rink will be delivered over the Christmas break. A wonderful group of parents has come forward to help in the planning and maintaining of the rink and we will hold our first meeting on January 5th . Our rink will be assembled in the back of our school and hopefully provide LAS students with a lot of fun and healthy exercise this winter. If you have any extra skates that no longer fit anyone in your family please consider donating them. I am sure we will have lots of kiddos that can use them! If you are interested in getting involved with our group please send me a message.

I would like to thank John Davidson, Dad of Jasper, for reaching out to me regarding skates. John has generously donated 30 pairs of new skates and 25 new helmets! The skates and helmets will be a variety of sizes for students K-8 and will be a huge boost in getting as many as we can on the ice this winter.

Vacation Travel and COVID related items

If your family is traveling outside of NE during the break please let Heather Boyd and I know so that we can properly plan for your quarantine period upon your return. Also, If your student is identified as being exposed to a positive case or, if your student tests positive for COVID during the break, please notify us so that we can respond to the data regarding LASl and plan the safest way to return to learning.

I want to personally thank all of you for helping us to make in-person-learning a priority for LAS this fall. In August I was really hoping to have our students in school for at least 4 weeks and am thrilled that we are still here. I am very grateful for our dedicated staff and the "all hands on deck" effort put forth on behalf of our kids. I know that they will all be so much stronger academically and emotionally because of our combined efforts. They all really deserve the best, thank you!

I am sure we will have a few more COVID challenges in the new year but  I feel very hopeful looking ahead after we have a nice break. This is a difficult season in a difficult year. It is my hope that joy finds you, however and wherever you are.

Best,

Beth
