Guidance

SEL has been a focus and priority at LAS, and is integrated across all academic and non-academic settings. Social Emotional Learning is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. SEL is something that can be supported and reinforced at home during remote learning as well, and the above resources are valuable tools and strategies for reinforcing SEL throughout COVID 19 and beyond.

SEL is not a singular curriculum, but rather an approach to education that strives to support the social and emotional needs of every child at every developmental stage while fostering a nurturing and positive school culture.

The core SEL competencies are:

  • Self-awareness
  • Self-management
  • Social Awareness
  • Relationship Skills
  • Responsible Decision Making
