Welcome to Lincoln Akerman's Health Office! 

This page has a LOT of hopefully really helpful infomation and links.  It can be a great resource when something happens at home outside of regular school hours and you want to make an informed decision about next steps.  I hope you find it useful, and as I am a nurse not a website designer, I always appreciate suggestions for improvement.

WHO AM I?  My name is Heather Boyd, and I have been a nurse since graduating from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 1995.  Soon after graduation, I joined the Peace Corps and taught basic nursing practices to students at a midwifery and medical assistant school in the far west of Nepal for 3 years.  When I returned to the US, I worked in dermatology in Newton, MA.   I moved to NH in 2001, and I worked as an oncology nurse for 12 years in Keene. I then changed course and started as a school nurse in order to focus on the preventative side of health care.  My husband, four daughters and I moved to Durham in 2019, and I landed at the amazing Lincoln Akerman School!  I love being a school nurse and look forward to taking care of your child or children.

WHAT TO DO IF MY CHILD IS ILL? 

Common ailments seen in school include colds, strep throat, ear infections, hand, foot and mouth disease, stomach bugs, the flu, and COVID.  For more details, please refer to the section "When to keep my child home" and/or the COVID specific page.
